In Pahrumph, Nevada (day 114)

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

This morning we took a quick walk around the neighborhood, and then it was time to say goodbye to Candy and Rick. They headed north to St. George in Utah, and we headed west and then north to Pahrump, Nevada. We’ve had a good time with lots of laughing, card playing, laughing, talking, laughing, sightseeing, walking, laughing…..we’re missing them already.

Historic Route 66

The winding road at 15 mph

Taking a break and a pic at the summit

Harris had been told about an alternate route that was scenic, so he decided to give it a try. We went west on old Route 66 across Sitgreaves Pass to the little town of Oatman. The road was slow, twisty, and very narrow. Of course we were on the side of the road that dropped off. Steeply. Harris really enjoyed the road, and looking around at all the beautiful scenery. Judy had to help Harris drive. Her right foot was sore from all the braking she did on the passenger side of the car.

One of the many vistas

While stopping for lunch in Bullhead City, we decided to head for Pahrump and go to Death Valley tomorrow or even the next day. There is a storm coming, and we need to do laundry. We found a nice RV park next to a casino. Harris decided that 45 degrees was just too cold to grill dinner, so we went to the casino and split a steak dinner. The internet connection doesn’t work, so perhaps we won’t stay here long!

An unexpected "tourist trap"
