Off to the UK w/o Howie pt 5

This picture was taken in the back garden of Alan's house. The garden is "informal", meaning the flowers and bushes are planted close together and look quite wild and beautiful. This is a picture of a wood pigeon..quite a large bird that loves to roost in one of the trees overlooking the garden.

Alan took us to Enbleton Terrace, near Rothbury to visit some of his friends Peter and Andrea, and show us the house that Ewan grew up in. In a park across the street is this huge rock, called the Millennium Stone. Every family in the parish carved their names, and so you see the Robson name here.

A view across the way...quite rural and remote looking.

Then we went to the village of Rothbury, where we walked through the woods a bit and had a picnic lunch. Harris also did a bit of geocaching, which required us to cross the river Coquet...on these stepping stones.

This is a private home now, but the waterwheel on the side lets you know it was once a mill.

After lunch we went to visit the castle at Alnwick, where Harry Potter was filmed.  It is also the home of the Duke of Northumberland. There is a self guided tour, with docents in all the rooms who are very happy to share their knowledge of the castle and furnishings. It is primarily decorated inside in the Italian Renaissance style, with gorgeous carvings and art.

On the grounds, people do various activities for tourists. This was a view from the castle walls of a falconry demonstration.

Another view of the castle.
