Camping at Pearrygin State Park Part 2

Sunday May 5-Monday May 6 (Days 274/275)

Camping with Harris means geocaching! We took a hike to find some. This little guy is guarding the cache until we come. Is there a theme here?

Harris found the cache...a fake rock.

Judy found this one..a pen stuck in a hole in the fence.

And down this road another mile was a stone marking an old homestead...way out here in the middle of nowhere. A great day for caching. We passed through trees that were teeming with some birds making a huge racket. Kind of like a cross between crows and doves in sound. We joked that they would make a perfect background for the game "Angry Birds".

Campsite 26 at Pearrygin State Park, in case you were wondering.

On Sunday, after Marilyn and Gene had caught their fish, they generously shared their boat, bait and poles with us. Harris and Judy went out, and eventually caught fish. We thought we caught one little guy 3 times. The first time, we decided he was just too little, and threw him back in. We waited and waited and waited, and then decided whatever size came next, we'd keep. Guess who showed up? But while Harris was trying to unhook him, he slipped off the hook and out a small hole in the net! gone! So we waited and waited and waited...finally caught a small fish that we felt had to be the same one. Harris caught the biggest of the bunch.

Did we mention Marilyn and great food? Beef fondue! Salads and home made breadsticks! Ice cream and cookies for dessert. My, how camping food has evolved!
More cards on Sunday night. Judy picked a different game and didn't lose...didn't win either, but at least she didn't lose. (As big sis would say, "Stop whining!)

Monday morning we went for a short hike and then started home...caching along the way, of course. Harris found this one, a bolt with the log inside.

A picture of the snow and mountains near the top of the pass.

Even with the hot weather, there was still several feet of snow at the sides of the road.

A waterfall near the road by Gorge Dam.

All in all, this was a great trip. We kept saying "Perfect!" The weather was great (high of 90), the company was great, the fishing was great...what more could we want?
Total miles driven = 194
