Friday, March 08, 2013 (Day 260)
The rain started at 4AM and only paused for short intervals until 10 AM. Harris checked online and saw that although the training fields were closed this morning, the game was scheduled to be played. Since there was no rush to go caching, Harris had a couple of cups of coffee and then fixed eggs and sausage for breakfast rather than the usual oatmeal.
He finally took off and timed it to arrive just before the first pitch. The grounds were in great shape and bundled in layers and long pants he headed to the seats. The first inning was the inning from hell. Two home runs, a single, 2 errors, 2 mental errors that weren’t counted (one where left and center fielders thought the other was going to get it and watched the ball bounce between them and out for a ground rule double) a wild pitch, and a hit batter. The Oakland A’s batted around and got 5 runs on 2 hits.
Before the 3rd inning a rain shower started and most, including Harris, ran for the one place that offered cover—the entrance. As neat as Peoria is there are no covered seats! This is what happens when design for Arizona (at least when they designed it 20 years ago). After the shower many went home, but Harris found a great spot behind home plate! The temperature was hovering around 48 degrees and the wind was continuing to pick up. You could watch the leading edge of the storm approach.
Since Harris had seen several games already, he didn’t feel it necessary to watch the M’s try to come back from a 1-10 deficit. He left for Howie. Just afterwards, the rain really started coming down. He did not regret his decision. On the way home he stopped at Winco’s and picked up a carton of fried rice and 1/3 of a pound of garlic peppered shrimp. Time to cook!
Total miles driven today = 30
