Spring Training v5.11

Saturday, March 09, 2013 (Day 261)

Around 1AM Mother Nature decided to have some fun. She showered the RV park with hail and so we could see it, she sent some lightening too. There was about half an inch of the white stuff that soon melted. The morning was overcast and Harris decided it was another long pants day. Today’s game was at Camelback Ranch, home of the Dodgers and White Sox so Harris loaded ten caches for the trip. He did six of them on the way striking out (pun intended) on one of them and leaving the final 3 that were located at the stadium to do while the traffic thinned out after the game.

One of the caches was called “No more power” and was interesting because there were so many possible hiding places. Harris finally found the clever little bugger (he moved it so it was more visible when taking the picture). He also enlarged the cache so you can see it.

Since he was so cold at the last game, Harris took his rain coat, xtra long sleeved shirt, and the sweat shirt. So of course the sun came out (not that he was complaining) for the first half of the game. The M’s hit well and stranded 7 runners while maintaining 2-1 lead through seven innings. Then a 2 run Dodger homer tilted the game their way 3-2.

Besides raising prices at Camelback Ranch, they decided to give designated drivers a free keychain that says Bud on it rather than the soft drink they used to give out. Talk about tacky… While at the game Harris spoke with a couple of guys, one a Cubby’s fan and the other an A’s fan. Some valuable info was gathered about buying tickets for the Cubs game when Harris and Judy go through Chicago. The strategy is to hang out at Murphy’s bar where many of the scalpers lounge and to pick up some cheap tickets at the end of the first inning. Harris will have to try that out this summer.

Someone put 3 caches at the ball park to occupy folks waiting to leave—a great idea. Each was a different type of hide. One of them had a hint “A toddler would be nice to have or a branch”. It took Harris awhile to work it down enough to be able to reach it. When Harris checked his email he found out that Rick’s Belgrade team was now out of the state playoffs so that he would start his trip tomorrow to come down for the rest of our baseball outing. Harris is looking forward to it.

Total miles driven today = 50
