North on I-95 through South Carolina

Monday May 2, 2011 (day 227)

Today was another travel day. We put six hours on the interstate and while freeways as a general rule suck, at least in the Southeastern US everything is green. We found one thing that reminded us of traveling many miles in the Midwest along Interstate 90. For those who have traveled it, Wall Drug in South Dakota is a landmark. Hundreds of miles away one would start to see a billboard advertising Wall Drug. By the time you come to it you’ve seen what seemed like hundreds of ads and feel compelled to check it out (especially after seeing the ad for free ICE WATER in the summer heat).

Well, a town called South of the Border which is just south of the North/South Carolina border took a similar approach in trying to snare cars off the freeway. We captured a few of the last signs as well as a picture of the water tower (we were able to resist the temptation) to share on the blog.

Have you noticed a theme?

We were thinking of seeing our niece Jeanie, but we couldn’t reach her on the phone so we pulled in around 4PM here in at the RV Resort At Carolina Crossroads in the city of Roanoke Rapids and settled in our camp chairs to read under the gazebo. Tomorrow we’ll see Kyle in Baltimore!
