Wednesday March 7, 2012 Day 270
Today's lawn seat
Last night’s low was in the 40’s and required the heater to warm up Howie before Harris got out of bed this morning. On a whim Harris stopped by a RV dealer that is a couple of blocks from where the RV park is located and told the service tech the problems he had been having with the charging system. After charging the batteries, Harris would find that the batteries would read empty after only a couple of hours with nothing on inside Howie other than a few gauges and the LP valve (total amp draw of 1.2 amps). He had the batteries tested and they passed. Harris also troubleshot the charger and it passed. Needless to say Harris was stumped. He had called PleasureWay and they were stumped. It turns out that the service guy knew his stuff. He asked if the batteries were tested under load. Harris answered that they were tested using some load tester. The service guy asked if the tester had coils on it and Harris responded they it didn’t. So he hooked up the battery to the tester and proclaimed that “this is the weirdest battery he’s ever tested”. It turns out that the battery would read good and then the voltage would drop off quickly and then the voltage would start increasing again. Batteries are not suppose to do that. After a couple of cycles the battery read bad. Then it was a matter of going to Costco and replacing the battery. Voila! No more weird problems.
The kid trying on the Spring Training shirt
Since the Mariners were playing in Tempe which is a ways away, Harris went to Peoria and watched the Giants and Padres game. It’s great to have the weather temps above 70 degrees again and be in shorts in the sun. At the end of the 7th inning some folks come out and shoot 2012 Spring Training shirts into the crowd with giant slingshots. Harris snagged another shirt so he gave this one to a kid sitting in front of him. It was a good game with the Giants coming out on top 5-2. One thing is for certain; the Giants fans follow their team in large numbers and are very vocal. Harris was impressed.
Love the name of this rig in the RV park
Upon returning to the RV park, there was time for a short bike ride before sunset and dinner. All in all, a great day!
A very different type of suburbia than I'm used to
Total miles driven today= 33
