Spring Training Day 9

Sunday, March 11, 2012 Day 273

After the usual French Pressed coffee, Harris drove into Peoria to resupply some consumables and to find a place for a bike ride/geocache ride. The great thing about Peoria (and probably most of Phoenix) is that they have built walking/bike trails along many of the creek beds used in flood control. On the Phoenix city website they state more than 500 miles of paths, bike lanes, and on and off street routes. Harris took an hour ride and did a couple of caches along the way.

Today's bike trail in Peoria

Since the Mariners were playing the SF Giants in Scottsdale where a lawn seat costs $25, Harris decided to take in the Padres and D’backs game in Peoria instead. The game was a back and forth affair with the lead changing hands several times. In the 8th inning the D’backs were up by 3 and the Padres came back to within 1 in the bottom of the ninth with runners on 1st and 2nd with one out. It came down to the final batter and most of the fans had left on this sunny 78 degree day… go figure. After riding the bike in the sun and sitting in the sun for 6 innings, Harris had to seek some shade for a couple of innings before returning to the sun for the remainder of the game. Oh, the Padres struck out and flied out to end the game losing by one (7-8). Harris loves these kind of games!

Arizona Diamondback fan "gussied up" for the game

Rick texted that he was halfway here and should make it by dinner tomorrow! Harris will have to fill him in on the Texas vs Mariner game.

Cool shade seats--What a relief!

Total miles driven today=30
